St. Louis, Missouri-based Arch Coal is one of the nation’s largest and most efficient coal producers.  In total, they contribute about 12% of America’s coal supply from their 11 mining complexes in Colorado, Kentucky, Missouri, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming.

With more than 137 million tons of pro forma coal sales in 2008, Arch Coal provided US utilities with the fuel for roughly 6% of the nation’s electricity.  Arch Coal controls a vast domestic reserve base totaling 2.8 billion tons. Of that total, 82% is low in sulfur and 74% meets the most stringent requirements of the Clean Air Act without the application of expensive scrubbing technology.
