Community Relations
Mincom is dedicated to supporting our people and the communities in which they live.
In Australia
In August 2000, Mincom announced that it had chosen the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland as its nominated charity and was providing support worth A$1.5 million. This is the largest single donation ever made to the Foundation.
Since 1975 the Foundation has been the driving force in Australia in improving the survival rates for patients. Today, seven in 10 children and three in 10 adults survive acute leukaemia.
Mincom is providing the with office space in Mincom Central for the next 10 years. The contribution marks the beginning of a long-term partnership with the Foundation to assist the lives of patients and families facing the challenges of a leukaemia diagnosis.
In recognition of Mincom's major sponsorship, the Leukaemia Foundation's 14 unit patient support and accommodation centre in Herston Road in Brisbane has been named Mincom Village. The Village was officially opened in October 2000, by the Queensland Minister for Family, Youth and Community Care and Minister for Disabilities Services, the Hon. Anna Bligh.
In addition, Mincom and the Leukaemia Foundation has established a joint Mincom-Leukaemia Foundation Trust which is administered by three representatives of each organization. All funds raised by Mincom staff is managed by the Trust for the further improvement of the facility.
In North America
Mincom's North American office supports regional charitable organizations through its Charitable Contribution Committee.
Established in October 2003, the committee concentrates its efforts on helping local organizations throughout the United States and Canada - the communities where our North American staff work and live.
Currently the committee's work is focusing on helping the following organizations: Friends of Man (www.friendsofman.org), Brent's Place (www.brentsplace.org), Food Bank of the Rockies (www.foodbankrockies.org), and Bishop Elementary School in Englewood, CO.
Additionally, through the committee's Employee Matching Funds Program, Mincom is making the contributions that our staff gives to charities go even further. This fiscal year alone, Mincom has provided matching funds to many organizations, including the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), Reading is Fundamental (www.rif.org), Lowry Elementary Dollar-a-Day Fund, Samaritan House (www.samaritanhouse.com), and more.
